Belgium
Plaster, 3,5m-4,5m, 35cm high.
8 instructions to experience entering the sculpture
3 phase procedure to encounter in consent.
It is a sculpture, a dance surface, an instrument, a witness, a relic, an experience, an archive, a testimony, a container, a playground, a place to come together. Materialisation of serenity, playfulness, surrender, nurturing. It is said it is reminiscent of a womb. An invitation to feel, to embody, to resonate with the field of touch. To create ways of being together. To explore the intimate space of creating in the moment.

I love open enquiry. I really need the other. It is through the other that my work literally takes shape. I want to emphasize this because it is at the core of my way of being an artist. I am here to heal and to work in community with art.
I gather people around a theme and look for what is needed to go into depth as a group. This in itself is an exploration.

So I designed a procedure of attunement inspired by the practice of Heartcircles by Greet Heylen and Tej Steiner. In three rounds, you go in small group on the sculpture Raakvlakken- Where we meet . Until now I discovered that first safety is set, then your desire is asking for attention and finally you feel free to create. I am wondering how it will evolve.
In this case of Raakvlakken- Where we meet, the main theme is how we constantly shape each other by just being and being expressive in our being. Where we meet is the place where our beings meet. This place of touching bodies, visions, beliefs, gives friction, collision, scarring..., and also caresses, gentle impulses, nurturing impact.....
Taking your space and expressing gives you immediate reflection on your being.
And what if we do this in the dark? And what if we explore this with our bodies first? And then talk about it? I found so much beauty and healing. Crossing bridges, welcoming others into private spaces you wouldn't think of allowing or sharing beforehand. Creative moments you can't design with the mind.
Our bodies hold a wisdom we rarely consult. Our tool to reach out with touch, to communicate with touch is underestimated. And the healing power of words when we sink into our bodies and act from our hearts is immense.
What if we connected more with our bodies and followed our curiosity about the experiences of others? Would we feel more compassionate then? I am really curious and want to discover more.
Therefore I continue in different formats to inquire and by doing this shaping my surroundings.
Raakvlakken- Where we meet is pure poetry just as the millionth love poem wants to remind us of love, so Raakvlakken- Where we meet wants to remind us of the beneficialness of touch and of contact in all its facets.
Raakvlakken- Where we meet in themselves disappear beneath the experience. It is the encounters that remain. Encounters with yourself and with another. The afterglow of contact and the insights that seep in even days after the experience.
