A line traveling the world
score
Hi courages and sensitive explorer,
You received a little bag of sand/dust/earth from 'A line traveling around the world'.
This sand has travelled and will be spread out by you on your soil somewhere outdoor, in the shape of a straight line.
Then the bag will be refilled with the sand of your soil. To whom will you give it? How will the line continue to travel?
You can do this experiment by yourself. Another option is to ask witnesses to be with you and watch you.
Or you can do it in a group and see what happens to both the individuals as to the group.
I wonder:
When you draw the line, can you feel your relation to the line? Can you imagine that this sand comes from another unknown place?
What happens?
Do you feel limited and/or do you feel possibilities? Are there emotions popping up?
How do you relate to the landscape around you? Are there other elements getting involved?
I am very curious what this act of drawing a line from sand of another place does to you.
How do you relate to the act, to the line and how do you move into this field created by this action.
And I am curious if you feel the possibility to redraw and reshape the sand and create another field, maybe involving other elements around you.
How is the inner lanscape reflecting on the outer and the other way around. When you redraw the outer landscape how does it affect your inner landscape? What does the act of drawing your outer landscape do to you?
This research is to find out how an artwork can make issues related to borders/limitations/space visual and tangible. How I as an artist can transform and heal these issues by letting a line of sand travel the world accompanied by instructions.
Why?
Because the theme of borders and prohibited movement hurts me.
Because the idea of devision and being apart hurts me.
Because I feel quite limited myself. Because I want to see more possibilities in myself.
Because I feel how much a physical limitation is having mental effects and how a transformation on one level can influence another level.
Because I want to explore the power of creating a meaningful project together that can make a shift.
Because I want to explore the ways I can communicate as an artist in a more direct way.
I am crossing the limiting walls of the art world.
I really want to know what this act of drawing the line and being in this field does to you. What the possibilities are that you feel. How you move and if you feel to, how to re-draw the field.
Curious about your experience I thank you for your participation.
