‘Raakvlakken, where we meet’ is a similar research to The Oilrituals but in another material, clay, and with another outcome: a sculpture in plaster that forms a bedding for encounter. From this work I derived smaller sculptures to discover with the hands.

After two decades of research, I am ready to step into the public sphere. Sharing my work, overcoming shyness, and standing up for what I create. My work is rooted in deep research, playful experiences, and profound artistic derivatives of that research. My biggest wish is that by showing my work, I can draw attention to the topics I am unfolding. While researching and delving ever deeper into these themes, I realized that this would be the journey I spend a lifetime on. I hope to inspire and connect with a broad community that is becoming increasingly aware of these matters. As I write this, I am about to organize my final Oil Ritual this weekend—in the form I have practiced for the last five years. I investigate what intimacy means, and I have discovered that creating together is one of the most intimate acts there is. In shared creation, I have found the ultimate state of intimacy: simply being together. It may sound obvious, yet it requires a particular quality of ‘being’ and ‘togetherness’—the quality my work strives to achieve. The next series of Oil Rituals will be rehearsals for the performance, happenings and film. For these purposes I create an offering for an audience to share 'the practice of being' to be able to appreciate in comfort the work I am about to share. Foto: Faber Mahieu.
